Recurrence drives long-term prognosis after liver metastasis resection

An international study of 3,002 patients who underwent hepatectomy for colorectal liver metastases found that 54% developed recurrence; multistate modeling showed that the probability of recurrence decreased the longer patients remained recurrence-free, and that recurrence was the dominant determinant of long-term prognosis.
